Colorado ranks 9th in the nation for teen binge drinking and alcohol remains the drug of choice for teens across the state. In an attempt to help curb this disturbing trend the “Speak Now” campaign, a statewide initiative aimed at encouraging parents to talk to their teens about the dangers of underage drinking, is announcing a partnership with the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA). Outreach will include participation at state athletic championships where parents are already supporting their teens’ healthy lives.

As if the slate of semifinal and championship basketball games is not enough to entice a trip to Boulder for the Colorado prep basketball fan, the Colorado High School Activities Association had added several activities to the agenda. For the first time ever, the state championships will showcase a Special Olympics Unified Basketball Exhibition Game, tipping off at noon on March 16 at the CU Events Center in Boulder. In addition, the CHSAA will honor the 1973 Mitchell AAA State Championship Team and six women who have been instrumental in Colorado high school girls’ basketball through the years.

CHSAA Boys Hockey Championships will be streamed live on the internet for the games Thursday, February 28th and Friday, March 1st.
